Learnt To Love It The Hard Way: Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner Review

They say true love persists and triumphs all odds. So it must be true love that had me continue using the Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner even when it was blunt, broken, and almost hopeless.

I was out with a girlfriend, Qi, some many months ago, when we stopped by Clio’s makeup counter that had a new range of products – Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner.

I’m hardly ever inclined to get new products on the market and prefer to wait around for reviews before deciding whether to throw good money at it. Somehow, that day, I had a calling. No, actually, more like the silly salesgirl told us the booth would be gone by the weekend and the Clio eyeliners will not be available until November. That was in May. However, by the very next weekend, the pencils were everywhere. -.-“

Good marketing strategy though. Instil FEAR.

I swatched the Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner and had to pretend it wasn’t anything much in front of the promoter so she wouldn’t know I was actually VERY impressed with the swatches. I like to keep my cool in front of promoters lest they pounce on my vulnerability. LOL.

Add to that the FEAR strategy and I was 98% sold. The 2% came from Qi who said “I’m gonna get it”. Okie. $18.90 down on something I hardly knew anything about.

I got the brown, she got the black and we had a chance of spinning the wheel for a price. Got a silly tiny bottle of eye makeup remover. But the first prize was hardly enticing either, some trolley bag or something.

Love Child Of Gel And Pencil

I LOVE that they’re very much like gel liners – the lasting power, smoothness, glidability – but in pencil form for greater convenience and lower price.

I used Star Purple and Metalic Silver in this purple-blue-green-yellow makeup tutorial.

Kate Gel Eyeliner Review: Smudgeproof, Long-lasting, and SO MUCH CHEAPER

Oh Kate! Thanks for reminding me that gel based eye liners are meant to look like thick cream, apply like butter and spread like silk! I almost forgot all of that when my MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack dried up!

And let’s not forget my unfortunate episode with the Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate Shimmer Ink that was dry like salted fish from the start.

Gel eyeliner, I have come to realize, is actually the easiest type of eyeliner to apply. Natural or dramatic, gel liners are much more adaptable to the type of look you want to achieve than liquid or pencil eyeliners.

Go for a sleek thin line to define the eyes, or amp up the look with a sultry winged out line. Pencil eyeliners can never achieve the intensity of gel liners; liquid eyeliners can never stay as long or smudgeproof as gel liners.

Packaging and Size

Fresh gel liner always looks so yummy and inviting!

The early generation of the Kate Gel Eyeliner came with an eyeliner brush which many people loved, more than the gel liner itself. I don’t have the luxury of ever trying out the brush because it has since been excluded. Same price but without the brush! Bah!
