Lip Balm, Lipstick, or Lipgloss? Find All Of That In The Lancome L’Absolu Creme De Brilliance Lipgloss

Like many ladies out there, I am confident of answering, if a stranger walks up to me and asks “What lip product do you have in your bag?”.

I’d say the Estee Lauder Lip Conditioner SPF15 (I bring this everywhere I go), and then easily 1 or 2 lipglosses.

I am not a lipstick kind of girl; I’ve tried Sephora, NYX, Stage, Rimmel, L’Oreal, many more, but they just don’t become favorites as easily as lipglosses.

In fact, I’m not a lip product person at all. I’ll do the whole lip conditioner, sometimes lip pencil, then lipgloss routine when I’m done with my face and eye makeup, and that’ll be the only time I’ll be seen with anything on my lips for the rest of the day.

Asian-Specific Shades

I don’t know, but why can’t we just have all the shades, huh? I own 2 of the 6 Asian-specific shades – Rose Nu and Rose Grenat.

Rose Nu 06

Rose Grenat 395

Left:  Rose Nu; Right: Rose Grenat

These are the 6 shades found on the Lancome Singapore website.

06 Rose Nu (rosy pink with subtle gold shimmer)

185 Orange Toffee

357 Rose Mythique

363 Rose Empire

365 Rose Absolu

395 Rose Grenat (mauve-maroon with less obvious glitter)

These are the 8 shades found n the Lancome US website.

Amandee Sucree

Berry Noir

Exotic Orchis

Cherrywood Luxe

Blush Classique

Sienna Ultime

Rose Mythique

The only common shade is Rose Mythique, which is what Kate Winslet wears in the poster.

Looking at swatches of non-Asian-Specific shades (pffft!) by KarlaSugar, I can imagine I’d take to Blush Classique and Champagne a lot. I’m a pinky lip shade kinda girl.

Lotsa Benefits For That Pout

Lancome L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance was made to behave like a hybrid of lip balm, lipstick and lipgloss. It boosts hydration from within the skin with its anti-aging ingredient – Pro-Xylane™ Concentrated – and moisturizes the lips for up to 10 hours. The anti-aging molecules are said to stimulate cell activity too.

Oh well, I don’t blog about the great sciences behind products and am pretty sure a tiny swipe of lipgloss cannot really retard the forces of time, but it does a pretty decent job of staying creamy on the lips for some time.

But like most lipglosses, I would need to touch up every time after I eat and drink, which is very often. I love to lick my lips too.

Hydrating Lip Care

I like that the Lancome L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance creamy lipglosses leave my lips soft and moisturized, while at the same time feeling light on the lips.

Some lipglosses leave a heavy feeling behind, like you know there’s something thick on the lips, yet they do nothing to keep your pout hydrated. I avoid those with a vengeance. Sephora *cough* lipglosses *cough cough*

Weird fact about me: Somehow there’s a connection between my lips and nose. If my lips feel uncomfortable, I will feel that my nose is oily. Lol.

Lancome L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance creamy lipglosses don’t leave a thin film of residue behind either, unlike the NYX Mega Shine Lipglosses. As pigmented and pretty and plentiful in colors as they are, the NYX ones tend to leave my lips dry and flaky and sticky. Yet I still use them becoz they colors are so nice. Lol.

Good Pigmentation

It is a cross between a lipstick and a lipgloss because it has the rich color payoff of the former and shiny appearance of the latter.

Because of its intense pigmentation, it takes just one light swipe across the lips to achieve opacity with the Lancome L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance creamy lipgloss.

Pretty incredible.

I also like that it is shiny, yet doesn’t make me look I had just eaten a plate of oily barbecued meat and didn’t wipe my mouth. However the shine doesn’t last very long. After a while, the shine fades but doesn’t become flat like a lipstick.

Special Applicator

The thing that sets the Lancome L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance lipglosses apart from other lipglosses is its specially shaped sponge-tip applicator.

It grabs just the right amount of product out of the tube so that the tip is not thick with product and you have to wipe the excess off.

The bent applicator also allows for more precise and smoother application. The wand fits the shape of the lips, so getting color on the bow and contours of the lips is mess-free and easy.

Nice Rose Fragrance

The fainy rosy smell is a nice welcome to the usual cherry smell I always experience with NYX glosses. It tastes slightly sweet on the lips, but disappears after I’ve licked my lips a few times.

All in all, I quite like the Lancome L’Absolu Creme De Brilliance Lipgloss. If only I were more of a lip product wearer.

About Bun Bun

Hello! My name is Juli and Bun Bun is my alter-ego. I blog to share my love for makeup, how to apply it, and what works or what doesn’t work, all from an Asian perspective.

My first makeup product was a shimmery light blue lipstick which I proudly wore all over my eyelids and lips. It cost $2.50, felt like $250, and made me feel like a million bucks.

Throughout this blog you will see Bun Bun in different poses.

Instead of using numbers (3/5, 4/5) or alphabets (B+, A+) to rate products, I put Bun Bun in different positions and expressions to represent the rating given to the product after a review.

In Bun-O-Meter, the first on the list would mean a 5/5 rating and the last one a 1/5 rating.

You can always refer to the sidebar any time you don’t understand what Bun Bun’s pose means.

I hope you enjoy reading my makeup and beauty posts as much as I did writing them.

Talk to you soon! =)

Me too! I am not a lipstick person at all. So the only time I buy lipstick is on warehouse sale 😀 I must say lancome do come out with good texture of lipglosses :)

    • Bun Bun

Haha! What brands of lipstick do you buy from warehouse sales? If lip products don’t expire, I think I can use what I have in my stash for the rest of my life~

    Hi Bunbun,
I read and like your blog very much, but I just wanted to tell you that it’s improper use of conduct if you take somebody else’s picture and re-upload it on your blog, especially if you didn’t ask them for permission. It was OK when you linked to Karla’s blog to the Lancome swatches, but not when you re-used the pic.
Just thought to let you know, thanks!

    • Bun Bun

*gasps*! Gosh! Thanks for alerting me, Jess! I’ve removed it. I must be more careful next time!

  • nicoles mirror

Normally I go for Lancome or YSL. Actually for some people that are really particular about lipstick/glosses the shelf life is about 1- 2 years. For me as long as it didnt give me adverse effect I will still use it. So far non of my lip gloss is over 3 years. I normally give them away to my friends if I dont use them anymore :)

    • Bun Bun

Hahaha same! I will continue using it if there it doesn’t cause any negative reaction. And I’ll stop if there is a weird smell too.

I have a YSL lipgloss and it smells like watermelon. Sometimes I open it just to smell it for fun. Lol. Mine’s the Touche Brilliance. What’s yours?

  • Shaynnie

    • Bun Bun

    HI BunBun,
This is my first time visiting your blog, I’m very impressed, May I introduced myself, I’m asian, with a warm, fair beige skin tone,it’s shade B40 in Shiseido foundation, I have been having problem with finding a nice nude lipstick that would look nice on me, most lipstick look too washout, or make me look lifeless, I tend to look nice in coral, apricot, pink color, do you by any chance know of a specific nude lipstick that would look good for my skin tone? Thank you

    • Bun Bun

I have that problem with nude lipsticks too! When I was new to makeup, I kept reading about NYX Circe, a true nude color. So I went to buy it, applied it, and looked like a zombie! Goodness!

Unless you have naturally pigmented lip color, I would suggest not going too nude as you might risk looking too washed out and deprived of life.

I guess we have the same warm undertone, but I have a lighter skin tone – MAC NC 20-25. I’m not a lip person – am more of an eye person – so I might not give you the best advice on lip color even though I own about 40 lip products. *gasp!* I do, however, like pinks and corals, and love those that imitate my natural lip color.

One lip product I like currently is the Revlon Colorburst 035 Blush, which I purchased not too long ago. A review is in the works. =)

  • snoozysuzy

I’m not really one for spending a lot of money on expensive lipsticks, or even wearing a lot of lip colour, but I have bought most of the Revlon colour burst lip butters on 3 for 2 deals recently.. I love the feel of them.. Creme Brulee is a nice nude (needs several applications during the day) but my absolute favourite day lipstick is Sugar Frosting.. it is just a perfect light natural pink..

    • BunBunMakeupTips

snoozysuzy I haven’t got a chance to try them out yet! But I’ve heard very good things AND very bad things about them. The reviews are on opposite ends, really. Haha glad to know you like them though! I must go and take a look at Sugar Frosting. Thanks for sharing!

      • snoozysuzy

BunBunMakeupTips One of the bad things might be they don’t have too much staying power so require reapplying throughout the day.. but this isn;t too much of a problem for me – but I’d be interested to hear what you think of them when you get hold of one..
