Bachelorette Party And Watermelon Soju

While I love parties and social events, I stay away from extremities. So I only had one condition for my Bacholorette party: NOT TOO WILD. Hahaha!

I’ve never had a liking for clubs and never understood the joy people derived from drowning themselves in liquor, having to shout at the top of their voices, not being able to have meaningful and memorable conversations, dancing aimlessly and risk getting frisked by weird strangers.

I’m not judging anyone, I’m just averse to a wild night life.

Okie la, you can call me GEEK lor. LOL.

I prefer to engage in little silly games, having great conversations with people I love, and I ADORE WATERMELON SOJU. =DDD

Night @ Crowne Hotel

Crowne Hotel Changi Airport very generously invited me to hold my Bachelorette party at their hotel and gave us 2 large rooms for me and my 4 bridesmaids.

3 of them checked in with me. OMG the lighting in this room was super awesome for photography! This room was facing the pool.

Hair-Free Is Care-Free With Ginza Calla

Hair, when grown at the right place, is beautiful, sexy, cute.

Judging by the amount of hair on my HEAD, you can probably tell that I have plenty of hair all over my body too. My hair is so thick it generates its own heat and I get mild heat strokes when I’m in the sun for too long. =.=”

Which is not too bad a thing if I were a manly man, but I’m a GIRLY GIRL and I don’t want to be a FUR BALL!!

Some fur balls are really cute though. 😀

Before IPL, I used to have to shave E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y. Then I progressed to epilation, which was kinda better, but of course the hair kept growing back.

Ever since I became Ginza Calla’s brand ambassador and started on IPL Hair Removal treatments, my self shaving sessions have become far and few between. I’m looking at you, my hairy legs! Even with epilation I had to do it every few days, but with IPL I now need only shave once a week.

Woman To Man Makeup Tutorial For Nuffnang 007 Birthday Bash

The long weekend has arrived! WOOHOO! Was just lying on my bed reflecting on what has happened the past 7 months and I’m truly grateful for the many opportunities that have come my way.

Then I realized that I haven’t wrote about the fun we had at Nuffnang Birthday Bash 007 which was in FEBRUARY. Bahahaha!!

I always love dressing up for occasions, and better UN-pretty than pretty, because you know, it’s hard to beat pretty. Lol.

Got the old school red plastic piggybank from a neighborhood shop, they’re so rare these days! And the pirated nerf gun was specially chosen by Mr Mode. After the event he brought it home to play.

Woman -> Man Makeup Tutorial

Smirk It

First, practise the smirk. HAHAHA! The middle one was the one I used the most for the night. I don’t know why, but that’s how I’d smirk if I were a guy~. Heh.

Sideburns, The More The Merrier

The sideburns were the hardest to get right! >.<

I set the base with black/grey eyeshadow first, but it looked one dimensional and too gentle, so I used crayon eyeliner. It was tough finding the right eyeliner coz if it’s too creamy, it would smudge too well and look too soft. If it’s too dry, it would be impossible to smudge at all, and the strokes would look too harsh.

I even resorted to using mascara to replicate hair in the last picture. But that idea was scraped coz it didn’t work out quite as expected.

Step-By-Step Makeup Tutorial: How To Conceal Bruise With Makeup

On my Dayre Day 108 – 18 Apr 2014 (bruise more obvious here: Day 112) , I shared with you guys how I woke up in the middle of the night, suffered a brutal knock on my left eye against the concrete window ledge, bled like mad, suffered a major headache, thought nothing much of it and went back to sleep. LOL.

For the next few days I had a swollen eye and bruise, the next few weeks I still had the bruise, and now…… there’s a scar. :(

It didn’t look serious enough to me, but my nurse friend saw it and told me to quickly go to the hospital. Apparently, it was quite a deep cut and the doctors told me because of the delay, there would be SCARRING. It sucks to have to deal with an unsightly scar, bu I’m grateful it was the eyelid and not the EYEBALL. That’s why I’m giving back by making this tutorial. Lol.

This was how I looked probably one week after the incident. You can see the yellow-brown circling the socket of the injured left eye.

I’ll do my best to include links to where to find the products so that you don’t have to do the hunting. :)

The Lioele Dollish Veil Vita BB is my super favorite makeup base that I use almost everyday, except when I’m testing out a new product or just switching things up for a bit.

For bases, I prefer to apply with duo fiber brushes. Seen here is the Hakuhodo J544.

If you use powder foundation, apply concealer BEFORE. If you use liquid foundation, apply concealer AFTER.

I’m a liquid foundation kind of girl, so it’s always foundation first, then concealer. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation gives amazing coverage and has great lasting power, but it’s precisely because it gives such a flawless finish that I don’t use it too often.

Foundations that I like:

This is the Make Up Store Cover All Mix Concealer which I like to use to cover very dark eye circles, or in this case, a bad bruise. Note that it is very dry and can be difficult to blend with the fingers. Not a top choice when you are in a rush.

I much prefer to use brushes and the Sigma F70 has been a longtime favorite and workhorse.

Apply the salmon shade on the blue/purple areas.

Other concealers with good coverage that I like:

Then use a more emollient concealer on the centre to ‘move’ the drier concealer, best if it has a brightening effect as well. I used Benefit Fake Up Concealer in 01 Light here.

Your Questions Answered: My Skincare Regime

It’s been a while, hasn’t it, since it happened?

Even so, I still get emails and messages asking about my skincare regime, almost every day. I took this long to share my skincare regime with you guys because I wanted to make sure these products really were effective in the long run. I was worried that my skin would get sick of these products, you know, like how skincare products used to cease effectiveness on my skin after a while.

Let me highlight first hand that this is not a paid advertorial, I paid for all of Dr Joyce Lim’s products with my own money. The stupid facial salon refused to compensate me a single cent for all that I’ve had to fork out to get my skin to what it is today (I tell you, they are so ngeow they refused to reimburse my taxi fare).

I cannot believe it has been 10 (WHAT!) months since that infamous facial episode. All these products prescribed by my dermatologist have worked wonders for my skin, as you can probably tell from pictures posted on my Instagram (@bunbunmakeuptips).

This picture was taken in August 2013, about 3 months post-Ms Barnacles. I can’t believe my skin managed to bounce back – correction: improved so much and be better than before – in such a short period. I think I looked pretty damn good! HAHAHA!!!! XD I swear the only editing done to this photo was resizing and adding of my watermark.

Don’t be fooled by my makeup (I’ll share with you my favorite face makeup in a while! :)) and flattering, natural lighting in this photo which make me appear like I have flawless skin. I DON’T. Sometimes my skin has a mind of its own and creates an artwork of dubious-looking spots on its canvas.

But sometimes is better than all the time and having spots is better than having pus! Be grateful in every small way and you’ll live happier! 😀

So I’m grateful that even though the irresponsible salon left me to die, I found a very good dermatologist who not only cured me, she made my skin better than before.

It has come to my attention that some unethical beauty brands (why so many out there, seriously!) have used my face, without permission, to promote their products, claiming that their products are the reason for my recovery. PFFFT! Some even go to the extent of showing a side-by-side comparison of before and after photos.

Before using their products = my face AFTER the terrible facial

After using their products = my face BEFORE the terrible facial

So please be VERY careful if you see my face being used to endorse products. Unless I have personally mentioned it on my blog and social media channels, I AM NOT ASSOCIATED TO THAT BRAND. Thank you to those who have alerted me, I tried to ask those brands to take the pictures down but unethical people will do anything to cheat your money.

Sigh. 有些公司就是那么贱。

To finally answer your questions, here is my skincare regime. I tried my best to look up on the proper medical terms, so don’t be so hard on me if I say something wrong k! 😛

Tutorial: How To Fix Broken Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette Eyeshadows + Tamping Technique!

Because the packaging’s really cool, it was never my intention (not so soon, at least) to depot the eyeshadows from the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette. I could live with opening up the gorgeous purple plastic casing and admire the 20 shades in their full glory, but fate had to have it its way.

It was pure accident one fine day that the palette decided to slip from my hand and land on the floor with a sickening crash. The closed lid didn’t spring open, but I could hear the deafening sound of shattered eyeshadows. Okie, I couldn’t, but I knew damage was done.

I tried tamping the shattered crash victim back with my diamond-inspired Tamping Tool but the Vice 2 eyeshadows are much smaller than the tool.

(Full product list at the end of this post!)

So I dug Voodoo out.

For all my depotting projects, I use a nail/manicure tool and it is used specifically for dealing with makeup. I don’t use it to dig dirt from my nails and then proceed to depot eyeshadows with it the next day. Ew!! :( Before I do anything, I make sure to sanitize the tool with Isopropyl Alcohol first.

The eyeshadows in Vice 2 are so loosely glued to the base. All that was needed was a little wiggle at the gap between the pan and plastic and Voodoo popped right out. No need for Isopropyl Alcohol to soften the glue, no need for a flat iron or oven to melt the glue.

There are some tutorials that show how to pry open the entire plastic casing, like how I similarly did for Kat Von D Beethoven Palette, thereby inevitably destroying the aesthetics of the palette. Let me tell you that there’s no need for that. If you just want to depot some eyeshadows from Vice 2, simply drive a wedge (literally) and the pans will pop up easily.

Top 13 Favorite Makeup Products of 2013

YO-HO! Year 2013 saw the second birthday of Bun Bun Makeup Tips. I’m thankful that my little blog has helped so many people with making informed decisions when it comes to purchasing makeup. Thank you for letting me feel the love! *muack

Here I present my top 13 favorite makeup products of 2013. (My mum innocently asked if I chose 13 because we stay on the 13th floor. LOL! How cute can my mum get? :D)

1. Lioele Dollish Veil Vita BB SPF 25

This has got to be the first one on the list coz I use it EVERY-SINGLE-DAY. It’s a makeup primer, base, BB cream, foundation, sunscreen… ALL IN ONE! It does not turn my skin into a pasty grey – a typical characteristic of so many BB creams; there is no flashback when I take photos with a harsh flash; it feels lightweight on my skin.

Even though it does not profess to have oil control abilities, I can wear this on its own and it lasts many good hours without turning me into a greaseball. Gorgeous Purple (01) brightens up complexion and Natural Green (02) combats redness. My preference is Natural Green because I have redness and an uneven complexion. This just gives my skin a great canvas to work more magic on. I would wear this alone on days when the skin is obedient. Haha. See my good skin in this post! =)

If there’s one product that can persuade me into believing all the hype about BB creams, the Lioele Dollish Vel Vita BB has to be it.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10

I discovered this during the later part of 2013 and it immediately ascended the throne of Best Foundation of 2013. It provides medium coverage so my skin looks like it breathes under it, and is very buildable without being chalky.

The thing that stole my heart must be the satin-like finish that goes on and stays on so wonderfully well on my oily skin. I’d do well with some loose powder, but doing without is pretty alright.

The only gripe I have about the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place is its dispensing method – the traditional screw top and pour-liquid-out-and-waste-product method. For that price and prestige, I’d much prefer to have a pump dispenser. ALL liquid foundations should come with pump dispensers! Hands up if you agree!

Go Bold Or Stay Nude With Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Matte & Neo Nude Lipsticks

My first ever Maybelline lipstick was in a deep shade of mahogany. And it made me look like I had barely survived from a plane crash and out of desperate hunger gobbled down a handful of poisonous berries.

I was 13 – and clueless. @_@”

And then I never owned another Maybelline lipstick in my life after that. Lol.

So I was pretty skeptical when the range of Bold Matte and Neo Nude Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks came into my possession – hopes were low.

Now that I’ve tried them on, I must say I’m impressed with the quality of the lipsticks from these two collections, especially those in the Bold Matte range. I’ve never seen lipstick shades of such intensity coming from Maybelline before – so luminous, so bold!

Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Matte

Bold Red  |  Vivid Coral  |  Hot Pink  |  Cheeky Coral  |  Sugar Pink

These lipsticks claim to ‘deliver superior color saturation, and hydrated with honey nectar that nourishes lips’, but they still do leave my lips dry and flake a little – not a lot, in fact, a lot less than other brands. I guess that’s the trade off for matte lipsticks. You just have to remember to exfoliate beforehand to get rid of as much dead skin as possible.

Eyeshadow Depotting Tutorial: How To Depot Urban Decay Naked Palette Without Heat

Were you one of the first who went all I-NEED-TO-OWN-THIS when the original Urban Decay Naked Palette came out in the market and made every neutral-lovin’ lady swear to own one and get it for all her girlfriends??

I wasn’t.

I took a while to let the hype hit me. By the time I finally got interested, it pulled a worldwide out-of-stock trick on me. GOSH! I had to wait like FIVE MONTHS for Sephora Singapore to finally have it restocked and get my hands on it! (Pssst! You can get it at Doll To Doll Cosmetics now!)

Everyone I knew loved it – the velvet casing that lent chicness and sophistication; the beautiful 12 neutral shades of browns, bronzes, champagnes and erm, more browns; the prestige of being able to get it at all.

Then one day I had enough of how troublesome it was to have to grab the palette for 1 or 2 shades, how the velvet casing had attracted dust and looked shabby, how my favorites from the Naked Palette made up only half of the full 12 stretch. I also got acquainted with the Z Palette. Never looked back since!

Check out my other depotting tutorials:

See those with a dent? They are Virgin, Sin, Naked, Smog, Darkhorse, and Toasted.

One day I finally decided to rip my Naked apart. I loved how beautiful the shades looked in their original packaging, but I wanted those shades I like to use to take up as little space as possible and be able to bring them around without having to lug the entire palette along.

Step 1:

There’s no need for rubbing alcohol or heat. Depotting the Naked Palette is SO EASY.

My Mascara Soul Mate: Lioele Blooming Volume & Curling Mascara

We may have been in a relationship with several people in our lives, but truly loved only one or two. That one being in the entire universe who gets all your lame jokes, humors you, plays with you, laughs and cries with you and thinks of your socially awkward  nuances as special.

Finding the perfect mascara is like meeting your soul mate. I may have gone through more tubes of mascaras than I have of fingers and toes, but have truly only loved two.

BAHAHAHAHA!!! What’s with all these analogies about soul mates and whatnots! Feeling particularly emotive on this cheery Saturday morning coz it’s Mode day! =P *whistles a happy song*

One of the two was the Lancome Oscillation Mascara, and the other, the subject of review for today – Lioele Volume & Curling Mascara.

How then, does one conclude that a particular mascara is destiny?

LOL! Okie okie, I’ll stop with all these cliched but nonetheless romantic finding-your-soul-mate talk.

Hello, soul mate.

If I had to choose between eyeshadow and mascara, I’d take mascara anytime. Mascara opens up your peepers, darkens your lashes, and depending on type, does marvellous things such as volumizing, lengthening, curling, lash-separation and the confidence to flirt your eyes out.
