Let’s do a MAKEUP REMOVAL EXPERIMENT today!
But before I start, who is guilty of not removing makeup before bed? I most certainly am not.
No matter how tired I am at the end of the day, I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make it a point to remove all traces of makeup before I hit the sack. A shower is negotiable, but makeup removal I’ll never skip!
Imagine tossing and turning, and having one-day-old makeup wiping on your pillow case. Unless you stay in a hotel with room service, you don’t change your sheets every day, do you? So the next time you go to bed with clean skin, you’ll be sleeping on a pillow case that’s been dirtied with old makeup stains. Ew!
That’s just how the OCD side of me views it, but if that’s not enough to scare you, here are more negative effects of sleeping with makeup:
- Makeup can clog pores while you sleep, resulting in the development of ACNE
- Overnight makeup prevents the skin from recovering itself naturally at night, causing BLACKHEADS, ACNE, DULLNESS
- Environmental pollutants stick to the make-up, causing what is known as oxidative stress, where skin is attacked by harmful free radicals. This decreases the production of collagen and promotes WRINKLES
- Moisturizer cannot be absorbed into the skin, resulting in DEHYDRATED SKIN and ENLARGED PORES
For every one night you don’t bother, your skin AGES by more than 2 nights. Is it worth skipping one night for?
I know, I know, it can be a real pain sometimes. Reaching home late, exhausted, and the last — the last — thing you want to do is wash your face.
I also know we’ve all had experiences with makeup removers that leave a sticky residue, don’t clean all that properly which translates to more hassle to triple cleanse, or oil-based removers that don’t sit too well with oily and sensitive skin.
All these make makeup removal the last of our priorities. But think of it this way, you spend at least 30 minutes dolling yourself up, surely a couple of minutes isn’t too much to ask for to remove it all, yeah?
Let me introduce to you my new best friend – Bioré Micellar Cleansing Water.
I have oily skin that is high in sensitivity so it’s not easy finding a makeup remover that is mild yet effective enough.
So glad to have found in Biore Micellar Cleansing Water a perfect way to quickly and effectively remove ALL my makeup!
Micellar Water has been a long-time favorite of makeup artists for its efficiency in cleansing skin since they need to quickly remove and create a new look on a fresh canvas. ‘Micellar Water’ is not a household term yet, but I know for sure it’s gonna change!
What Is Micellar Water?
Oh, how silly of me. All that chatter about Micellar and not having to rinse your face afterwards, and you probably don’t know what it is in the first place!
Micellar water originated in France and gained its name because of the micelles molecules in its water-like formula. When applied to the skin, these molecules latch onto the dirt, make-up and other impurities sitting on your skin, removing them in an effective and gentle manner.
The Biore Micellar Cleansing Water contains an ultra gentle yet effective makeup removal formula – natural mineral water from Japanese Alps with Micellar Watery Technology, to be exact, for the thorough removal of makeup.
On top of effectively removing makeup, it contains an anti-bacterial formula that helps prevent pimples and outbreaks, and minimizes pores for a clearer and more refined complexion.
Biore Micellar Cleansing Water VS Brand X
Let’s get down to comparing the Biore Micellar Cleansing Water and Brand X!
As per the instructions, place soaked cotton pad onto closed eyes for 5 seconds before wiping off gently.
As you can see, the Biore Micellar Cleansing Water was able to remove all traces of eye makeup while Brand X left some residue on the lashline.
Final Test With Oil-Based Remover
So this is how things usually go when I use Brand X, or Y or Z. Most cleansing waters are able to remove general makeup well, but still play second fiddle to an oil-based makeup remover when it comes to removing waterproof eye makeup.
Thus comes the need for my trusty Biore Makeup Remover for Eye & Lip for a separate removal. I’ve been a Biore fan since I can’t even remember when, I could be on my 100th (Lol!) bottle of Biore Makeup Remover for Eye & Lip.
The eye makeup that Brand X was not able to remove was eventually thoroughly removed by the oil-based Biore Makeup Remover for Eye & Lip. This probably doesn’t look like much, but the makeup was on my face for only about 20 minutes prior to removal so it was easier to remove than usual.
Just to be sure, I also used it on the eye that Biore Micellar Cleansing Water was used and there was absolutely nothing to remove.
Effective & Gentle On Skin
I’ve tried several cleansing water from various brands but I think the Biore one wins hands down as an ALL-ROUNDER makeup remover as it eradicates the need for a separate makeup remover.
There was one particularly horrid brand of cleansing water that took me 10 cotton pads and caused soreness on my sensitive skin to thoroughly (hopefully) remove all makeup each time. I just couldn’t deal with the amount of time and effort wasted! >.<”
The Biore Micellar Water doesn’t sting my eyes nor irritate my sensitive skin, removes my makeup in a jiffy and it’s not necessary to rinse your face after.
Micellar waters aren’t designed to be rinsed off, however if your skin type requires a deeper clean or if you’re just paranoid like me, follow up with your regular cleanser.
It’s designed to draw makeup, sebum and impurities from the skin. On days when I don’t wear makeup but have sunscreen on, or feel like my skin is very dirty from environmental pollutants, I’ll use the Biore Micellar Cleansing Water to remove superficial dirt first and only wash my face before I go to bed at night.
Another merit of Micellar Waters is that in countries with hard water that can irritate sensitive skin, cleansing your face with Micellar Water is a much better option.
I like that the Biore Micellar Cleansing Water makes a superb travel companion with its lightweight yet sturdy bottle make; the stopper is an important addition to prevent leakage too!
Biore Micellar Cleansing Water retails at SGD18.90 at all pharmacies, hypermarkets and supermarkets, and major departmental stores.
